ABOUT GEMCO
Located on the tropical Groote Eylandt in the Northern Territory, GEMCO is an open-cut mine that is accountable for over 15% of the world’s manganese ore production. Groote Eylandt is home to the Anindilyakwa people, who are the traditional owners of the land and have been working alongside GEMCO since 1963.
The onsite accommodation includes meal services and access to excellent facilities, including a gym, beachside workout area, swimming pool, golf course, tennis and squash courts, a sports oval and a range of scenic walking tracks.

ABOUT THE ROLE
This role is a permanent full-time position on a 4:3 roster, Monday to Thursday, FIFO from Darwin or Cairns to Groote Eylandt.
As an Environmental Field Technician, you will be responsible for providing environmental expertise to support compliance, risk management and operational planning across GEMCO.
Other key responsibilities include, but aren’t limited to:
- Design and conduct environmental monitoring programs
- Conduct sample preparation and dispatch
- Maintain monitoring equipment
- Environmental and spatial data management
- Prepare environmental reports and compliance documentation
- Provide environmental advice to operational and planning teams
ABOUT YOU
You will have experience and demonstrate capability in the following:
- Delivering environmental monitoring programs in operational settings within mining or other heavy industry
- Interpreting environmental regulations, approvals and compliance requirements
- Undertaking environmental field monitoring in remote and challenging conditions
- Analysing environmental data and preparing technical reports
- Proficient in ArcGIS
- Applying strong QA/QC practices for sampling
Qualifications for this position are:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, or related disciplines
- Current C Class Drivers Licence (manual or willing to obtain)
