Engineering Lead - Autonomous Systems Integration

Our client is looking for an experienced Engineering Lead to play a critical role in the delivery and integration of advanced autonomous and collision avoidance technologies within a large-scale operational environment.

Roster: 5/2 Perth CBD based

Start date: Early July 2026

Duration: approx. 12 months - depending on client requirements

Pay Rate: $135.00 p/h + Super depending on experience

Please note that only people with relevant experience will be considered.

The Role:

This position will act as the key technical interface between engineering teams, project stakeholders, operational personnel, product teams, and external technology vendors, ensuring technical requirements, design decisions, and integration activities remain aligned throughout the project lifecycle.

Working within a highly collaborative environment, you will provide technical leadership across complex software and hardware-integrated systems, helping to drive successful project outcomes while maintaining a strong focus on safety, governance, and operational performance.

Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Lead technical coordination between engineering teams, project stakeholders, operations personnel, product teams, and external vendors.
  • Facilitate requirements clarification, technical reviews, design discussions, and issue resolution activities.
  • Ensure technical decisions, assumptions, risks, and dependencies are clearly documented, communicated, and managed.
  • Coordinate the development and review of requirements, interface definitions, design artefacts, and supporting technical documentation.
  • Drive alignment between engineering intent, vendor deliverables, and operational requirements.
  • Identify and proactively manage integration risks, technical gaps, and system dependencies.
  • Support engineering governance and continuous improvement initiatives across the project lifecycle.
  • Facilitate technical workshops and stakeholder engagement sessions to ensure alignment and clarity across multiple disciplines.

Essential Experience:

  • 8+ years' experience delivering complex engineering systems, products, or technology solutions.
  • Strong background in Systems Engineering, Systems Integration, Software Engineering, Product Development, or related disciplines.
  • Demonstrated experience managing technical stakeholder relationships across engineering, operations, project teams, and external vendors.
  • Experience delivering hardware and software integrated solutions throughout the product development lifecycle.
  • Strong understanding of requirements management, interface management, systems integration, and technical governance.
  • Excellent communication and facilitation skills with the ability to translate complex technical concepts for diverse stakeholder groups.
  • Experience working within safety-critical environments.

Highly Regarded Experience:

  • Experience with autonomous mining technologies, fleet management systems, collision avoidance systems, or industrial automation.
  • Exposure to functional safety frameworks and standards such as ISO 21815, ISO 61508, ISO 26262, or equivalent.
  • Experience within mining, resources, defence, rail, industrial automation, or other complex operational environments.
