Engineer - Mine Backfill
Liontown Resources
Job Description
Who Are We?
Liontown Resources (ASX: LTR) is one of Australia's newest and most exciting lithium producers. Our Kathleen Valley Lithium Operation in Western Australia is a world-class, tier-one asset with a 20+ year mine life, and we're in the midst of a significant staged underground expansion.
Our underground team at Kathleen Valley is dedicated to executing safe and efficient mining operations — focused on rigorous planning, efficient execution, and continuous improvement to optimise resource recovery.
The Opportunity
This is a new role within a growing backfill team, and a genuine opportunity to build your career in underground backfill engineering at a world-class lithium operation.
You'll work alongside Senior Backfill Engineers, getting hands-on experience across paste operations, daily production reporting and schedule alignment. We're happy to consider candidates with limited backfill experience — if you've got a solid underground mining foundation and the drive to learn, we'll invest in your development.
From here, the path is clear: grow your technical expertise, working towards a Senior Backfill Engineer role as the operation scales.
What You'll Be Doing
- Work closely with Senior Backfill Engineers, the underground paste crew and the technical services team to support paste fill activities; assisting with daily production reporting, small-scale troubleshooting and execution of the weekly paste schedule.
- Generate paste fill notes and work instructions, aligning with site standards and technical design.
- Monitor underground paste fill infrastructure condition and performance, ensuring installation, operation, and maintenance align with engineering design.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives across underground paste operations, improving performance, safety, and efficiency.
- Assist with statutory recordkeeping and ensure documentation meets regulatory requirements
What We're Looking For
- Tertiary qualification in Mining, Mechanical, or Geotechnical Engineering – we welcome candidates across these and other relevant disciplines
- Approximately 2 years of underground mining experience
- Self-motivated and proactive — someone who takes initiative
- Strong communication skills and ability to work within a team environment
- Current 'C' Class Western Australian Driver's Licence
- Some exposure to paste fill or backfill operations (not essential — we'll train the right person)
- Familiarity with underground production scheduling and Deswik.
Why Liontown?
At Liontown, you'll join a team that's helping power the clean energy future. Our culture is built around people who take ownership, look out for each other, and are proud of what they're building together.
This role is a real launchpad. You'll be supported by experienced Senior Engineers, working on a live and growing site, with a direct pathway to step up into more senior technical and planning roles as the operation ramps up.
