Newmont Tanami is on Aboriginal freehold land 540km northwest of Alice Springs. It is a long-life, low-cost, world-class asset in a core Newmont region. The Tanami Expansion 2 project, aims to extend the mine life beyond 2040, investing in a hoisting shaft which will increase the production of the underground mine from 2.6 Mtpa to 3.2 Mtpa.  Both the successful exploration within the underground operation and implementation of the first Tanami Expansion has laid the foundation to further develop the operation to remain a major contributor to the Newmont portfolio. A fully equipped camp is located 40km from the site offering leisure facilities for those flying in from Perth, Brisbane, Alice Springs or Darwin.

Your Impact

Reporting to the Superintendent, Mine Planning, as a Project - Drill and Blast Engineer within Newmont’s Technical Services team at Tanami, you will play a key role in improving underground drilling and blasting performance. Your work will directly support production outcomes through continuous improvement initiatives, innovative project work, and effective collaboration with operations and technical stakeholders

As part of our team, you will:

    • Lead and support continuous improvement projects and trials across underground drill and blast processes
    • Work closely with the Supervisor Production and Senior Production Engineers to deliver production targets
    • Assist with stope file notes, ring designs, firing plans, and rapid responses to scheduling changes
    • Analyse drill and blast data, reconcile results, and track improvement initiatives
    • Monitor D&B activities and key metrics to ensure compliance with design standards
    • Maintain and support drill and blast software systems including DHS, Orica, Deswik and MDM
    • Prepare technical reports and documentation aligned with Newmont standards and policies
    • Contribute to the development and updating of systems, procedures, and operating standards
    • Support the evaluation and project management of new technologies and innovations

Prerequisites for your success in this role:

    • Bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering (or equivalent)
    • Proven experience as an Underground Mining Engineer
    • Strong understanding of underground production equipment and explosive safety management
    • Experience with drill and blast software and scheduling tools (eg. Deswik)
    • Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and data management skills
    • Ability to work effectively both independently and within a team
    • Clear communicator with a continuous improvement and innovation mindset
    • Willingness to embrace new technologies in a production environment
    • Valid Australian drivers licence
    • Clean shaven
