About the Role
We are seeking a skilled Industrial Electrician to support ongoing capital upgrades and maintenance works at a major Alumina Smelter in Portland, Victoria.
This role will see you working across fixed plant, industrial electrical systems and site communications infrastructure, contributing to safe, reliable and efficient operations in a complex processing environment.
You will be part of a multidisciplinary team supporting maintenance, breakdowns, shutdowns, and upgrade projects across critical plant areas.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform electrical installation, commissioning, fault finding and repair on industrial plant & equipment
- Install, terminate and test structured cabling systems (CAT6 / fibre where applicable)
- Support communications infrastructure including network cabinets, patch panels, field devices and connectivity for control systems
- Conduct inspections, testing and commissioning of LV/HV electrical systems and associated equipment
- Assist with instrumentation tasks, including loop checks, device replacement and basic calibration where required
- Diagnose faults across electrical, control and communications systems
- Support multiple concurrent capital upgrade and brownfield installation projects
- Work safely within a live processing environment adhering to permit systems, isolations (LOTO) and site procedures
- Collaborate with engineering, operations and other trades to ensure plant reliability and uptime
- Complete accurate documentation, reports and compliance records
About You
- Trade-qualified Electrician (A-Grade VIC licence or equivalent)
- Demonstrated experience in heavy industrial environments such as alumina, mining, smelting, oil & gas, or manufacturing
- Hands-on experience with structured cabling (CAT5/6), fibre optics or industrial communications systems
- Exposure to PLC/SCADA networks, industrial Ethernet, or control systems networking highly regarded
- Solid technical knowledge of LV/HV systems, motors, drives and plant equipment
- Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, schematics, network layouts and P&IDs
- Strong troubleshooting capability across electrical and data/communications issues
- Commitment to safety, quality and teamwork
- Able to work in a fast-paced operational environment with competing priorities
Highly Regarded
- Structured cabling systems Licence
- Instrumentation exposure or dual trade (E&I)
- Experience in smelters, refineries or continuous processing plants
- Working at Heights, Confined Space, EWP
- LVR/CPR, High Voltage switching (or willingness to obtain)
- Experience with industrial networks (e.g. Profinet, Modbus, Ethernet/IP)
