About the Company
Join our Downer Professional Services team and play a key role in delivering complex defence and national security projects that safeguard Australia’s future.
Downer Professional Services comprises of three business units our Technical, Advisory, and Capability consulting practice, and Team Downer, which partners with CASG and NSSG as a major service provider to Defence. Together, we are a multi-disciplinary advisory and delivery partner of choice for clients across Defence and National Security.
We currently have an opportunity for a Cost Modeller in Canberra to work on Space SATCOM projects.
About the Role
This role offers a broad scope, with key role responsibilities including:
- Develop and maintain Defence-compliant cost models – build, refine and document cost baselines across WBS, schedules, resources and dependencies.
- Produce financial inputs for governance and approvals – support Investment Committee and multi-level submissions with accurate costing and justification artefacts.
- Analyse cost data and drive insights – leverage advanced Excel to validate assumptions, assess variance, and support decision-making.
- Apply Defence costing tools and frameworks – utilise CCT and align outputs with One Defence Capability System requirements.
- Engage stakeholders to shape cost inputs – collaborate across project teams to gather data, validate assumptions and build trusted relationships.
What You’ll Bring
- Familiarity with One Defence Capability System and the specific financial justifications required for all committee levels.
- Skilled in utilising advanced Microsoft Excel functions and formulas to process data.
- Capacity to engage with diverse stakeholder and build rapport.
- Familiarity with the Defence Capability Costing Tool (CCT).
- Preferable Accounting or Finance accreditation. Due to the nature of the work, you are required to currently hold and maintain an AGSVA Security clearance as required by the Commonwealth. In some instances, compliance with ITAR requirements may also be an inherent requirement.
