You will be a proactive, credible, and influential member of the leadership team whilst building trusted, collaborative working relationships with key stakeholders.

Our successful candidate will need to be suitably qualified to manage all aspects of the department’s deliverables and supervisor core routines.

About the Role

We are seeking a skilled Shutdown Coordinator (Electrical) to join our Fixed Plant Maintenance Operations at Newman. Reporting to the Technical Team Lead Shutdowns, you will have a strong safety culture and ensure safe systems of work are in place for all activities. 

Working a 5 days on 2 days off / 4 days on 3 days off (FIFO from Perth) or a Residential roster based in Newman working Monday to Friday 7.6 hours per day, you will play a key role in the development, communication, and execution of the Electrical Shutdown works, while continuously seeking to identify opportunities for improvement and quality outcomes and as a Statutory S26 Appointed Person, you will ensure full compliance with the Work Health and Safety (Mines) Regulations 2022.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain a safe work environment for your team in your areas of responsibility. Area inspections are a crucial part of the role.
  • Adhere to specific maintenance processes as outlined in the BHP procedures
  • Work effectively with other maintenance and production teams
  • Facilitate and complete “Whole of Job Function”, which includes pre work, preparation of JHA’s and/or Work Instructions, as well as organising materials
  • Prioritise efforts to reduce breakdown duration and assist with plant availability
  • Maintain a high standard of housekeeping utilising the 5S standard.
  • Participate in Continuous Improvement Programs that result in higher levels of plant and equipment performance and availability.
  • Maintain a high-level working knowledge of BHP procedures and safety processes.

Skills and Experience

Experience, skills and qualifications required include:

  • Experience in fixed plant electrical space
  • Australia recognised trade qualification
  • WA “A grade” Electrical Licence / Electrical Engineering degree
  • Unrestricted C class driving licence
  • 1SAP, planning and work management experience an advantage
  • Strong safety leadership and safety event management experience desirable
  • Positive and motivated people leader with a focus on culture and team diversity
  • Ensure conformance with the BHP Charter, BHP Our Requirements, Code of Conduct, and relevant Statutory Obligations
  • An overriding commitment to health, safety, environment responsibility and sustainable development
  • Organisation and chairing of all shutdown related meetings as required
  • Provide communication and coordination between the key stakeholders allowing for safe and efficient shutdown execution
  • Ensure safe, cost effective, quality work scopes and risk assessments are being developed for shutdown execution
  • Verify delivery of materials required to complete work as planned within your area of responsibility
  • Review shutdown schedules to ensure that all interactions have been appropriately scheduled and considered
  • Ensure labour is utilised as per targets, through efficient scheduling and challenging mobilisation/demobilisation of vendors to shutdowns
  • Making work permits in BHP digital permitting system (Sphera)
  • Assist with development of hire equipment plans for shutdown execution
  • Verify and or approve Isolation Certificates
  • Ensure that all statutory requirements are met during shutdown execution
  • Conduct and assist with investigation of safety events and schedule overruns which occur during shutdowns
  • Ensure shutdown closeout is completed in a timely manner as per SMF
  • Identify, implement, and provide input to the continuous improvement of the shutdown process through the BOS principles
