About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Contracts Manager to join the project team delivering a major infrastructure and construction project.

The project is valued at approximately $100 million and involves significant marine, civil and structural construction works. The Contracts Manager will take ownership of the commercial and contractual management of the project, with a strong focus on subcontract formation, administration, compliance, commercial risk and project outcomes.
The successful candidate will play a key role in preparing, administering and managing subcontract packages throughout the construction lifecycle, working closely with the project management, construction, procurement and engineering teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the preparation, negotiation and administration of subcontract packages across the project.
  • Manage subcontractor performance and ensure contractual obligations, project requirements and programme commitments are met.
  • Review and manage subcontractor claims, variations, extensions of time, delays, notices and other contractual matters.
  • Provide commercial and contractual advice to the Project Manager and wider project team.
  • Identify, assess and mitigate contractual and commercial risks.
  • Prepare and maintain contractual correspondence, notices, registers and supporting documentation.
  • Ensure appropriate contractual processes are followed in accordance with project procedures.
  • Assist with the preparation and review of scopes of work, subcontract agreements, schedules and commercial documentation.
  • Manage commercial negotiations with subcontractors and support the resolution of contractual disputes.
  • Monitor subcontract costs, commitments, variations and forecast final costs.
  • Work closely with construction, procurement, design and project management teams to support successful project delivery.
  • Maintain accurate records of contractual obligations, milestones, claims and commercial outcomes.
  • Provide regular reporting on commercial and contractual performance.
  • Ensure subcontractor compliance with project, safety, quality and environmental requirements.

  • Marine and wharf infrastructure upgrades.
  • Large-diameter steel piling.
  • Heavy-duty concrete construction.
  • Pavement works.
  • Drainage upgrades.
  • Ground stabilisation.
  • Associated civil, structural and infrastructure works.

The project is operating to a highly time-critical programme, requiring strong commercial discipline, proactive contract management and close coordination with construction and project delivery teams.

About You

  • Extensive contracts management experience within construction, civil, infrastructure, marine, resources or related industries.
  • Strong experience managing subcontract formation and administration.
  • Demonstrated experience managing variations, claims, EOTs, delays and commercial disputes.
  • Strong understanding of construction contracts and subcontracting principles.
  • Experience working closely with project managers, construction teams, procurement and engineering/design functions.
  • Strong commercial negotiation and stakeholder management skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple contractual matters simultaneously.
  • A proactive approach to identifying and mitigating commercial and contractual risk.
  • Experience working on large-scale or complex construction projects.
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in Construction Management, Quantity Surveying, Commerce, Law, Engineering or a related discipline would be advantageous.
