Community Liaison Officer

**Location:**Olympic Dam Village
ESS Manages all aspects of large-scale accommodation facilities or “villages” for remote works, providing the essential comforts such as a hot meal, a clean bed, freshly laundered workwear to health and wellness facilities for those working away from home.
The Position:
The role acts as the key link between Operational Delivery, local communities, Traditional Owners, Indigenous organisations, government stakeholders, education providers, and employment agencies to create sustainable employment pathways, local recruitment opportunities, and community development initiatives.
Working closely with the People & Culture Manager and Recruitment Team, the Community Liaison Officer will develop and implement local recruitment strategies that increase community participation, improve workforce sustainability, and support client and organisational social value commitments.
Community Engagement & Partnership Development
- Build, maintain, and strengthen relationships with local communities, Traditional Owner groups, Indigenous organisations, community leaders, and not-for-profit agencies.
- Act as a key representative of the business within the community, promoting employment opportunities and organisational initiatives.
- Identify opportunities for collaboration that enhance community outcomes and support operational requirements.
- Attend community forums, networking events, industry meetings, and stakeholder engagement activities.
- Facilitate regular engagement sessions with community stakeholders to understand local opportunities and challenges.
Indigenous Employment & Business Development
- Develop and maintain Indigenous employment and participation initiatives aligned with organisational and client commitments.
- Identify and establish pathways for Indigenous employment, traineeships, apprenticeships, leadership development, and career progression.
- Partner with Indigenous businesses to identify procurement and subcontracting opportunities.
- Support the achievement of Indigenous participation targets and reporting requirements.
- Collaborate with Traditional Owner groups to ensure respectful and culturally appropriate engagement practices.
Local Recruitment & Workforce Development
- Develop and implement local recruitment strategies in partnership with the People & Culture Manager and Recruitment Team.
- Identify employment opportunities within local communities and create pathways into operational roles.
- Support attraction campaigns targeting local residents, school leavers, trainees, apprentices, and under-represented groups.
- Build relationships with local employment providers, training organisations, schools, universities, and Indigenous employment agencies.
- Assist in developing employment programs that increase workforce participation and retention.
Operational Support
- Provide advice and recommendations to operational leaders on community engagement matters.
- Assist with workforce planning activities by identifying local labour opportunities and risks.
- Support mobilisation activities for new contracts and operational expansions.
- Contribute to retention initiatives through ongoing community and employee engagement.
Social Value & Community Outcomes
- Support the development and delivery of social value initiatives that create measurable community benefits.
- Assist operational leaders in identifying opportunities to contribute positively to local communities.
- Coordinate community sponsorship, volunteering, and engagement activities where appropriate.
- Track and report on community investment and social impact outcomes.
Follow Compass health, safety and security procedures
- Adhere to health, safety and security procedures.
- Identify and report all hazards.
- Maintain safe personal presentation standards.
- Provide feedback on health safety and security.
- Report all incidents immediately.
Exhibit safety leadership
- Actively ensure staff follow HSEQ and manual handling procedures.
- Promote safety awareness.
Plan for safe and efficient cleaning activity
- Assess the cleaning situation.
- Assess hazards.
- Assess work site security risks.
- Select suitable work methods.
- Follow safe manual handling practices.
Comply with infection control policies and procedures
- Clean and disinfect facilities complying with Compass infection control protocols.
- Maintain Hygiene.
- Identify and respond to infection risks.

The Person:
Essential
- 2-3 years experience in community engagement, workforce development, stakeholder management, or related field.
- Strong relationship-building and influencing skills.
- Experience working with Indigenous communities and organisations.
- Knowledge of local employment and training pathways.
- Strong communication and presentation skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple stakeholders.
- Current C Class Driver's License.
Desirable
- Experience within mining, resources, facilities management, hospitality, or remote operations.
- Understanding of Indigenous procurement and participation frameworks.
- Experience working with local government and regional development agencies.
- Qualification in Community Development, Human Resources, Employment Services, Business, or related discipline.
