The opportunity
An opportunity has become available for a Commercial Manager to join Downer's Energy & Utilities business. Reporting to the Senior Commercial Manager, this role partners closely with operational, finance and project teams to improve commercial outcomes across a portfolio of contracts and projects.
You will be instrumental in supporting project performance, protecting margins, managing contractual risks and opportunities, and driving effective commercial governance across the business. This role offers exposure to major projects and contracts across Australia and will require periodic travel to project and operational sites throughout the Eastern States to build strong stakeholder relationships and support delivery teams.
What you’ll do
- Provide commercial leadership and advice across diverse construction, maintenance and service contracts.
- Lead the management of claims, variations, contract changes and dispute resolution activities.
- Support risk and opportunity management initiatives that drive margin improvement and business outcomes.
- Partner with operational and finance teams to oversee contract performance, revenue capture and cash collection.
- Contribute to commercial reporting, project governance and performance improvement initiatives across the business.

What we’re looking for
- 7+ years' experience in commercial management within construction, engineering, maintenance or infrastructure environments.
- Proven experience managing contracts, claims, variations, risk and opportunity processes during project delivery.
- Strong knowledge of commercial contracting principles, contract administration and financial performance management.
- Ability to influence stakeholders and partner effectively with operational, project and finance teams.
- Relevant tertiary qualification in Law, Construction Management, Engineering, Quantity Surveying, Accounting or a related discipline.
