About the Role
Anglo American Steelmaking Coal has an exciting opportunity for an experienced Commercial Analyst to join the team for a 12 month fixed term, based in Middlemount, QLD. Your role will focus on being primary commercial support to operations and business support managers/superintendents. Reporting to the Commercial Finance Specialist this role will see you:
- Assist and advise discipline Managers & Superintendents to develop budgets, e.g., by providing insights and analysis into financial data and consolidating inputs
- Support preparation of financial forecasts that includes forward looking risks and opportunities
- Collaborate with discipline to develop risk register, proactively providing financial evaluation (cost/capital) of risk mitigation strategies
- Provide risk input to Commercial Manager
- Serve as contact point for financial information & detailed advice for finance discipline teams
- Support tracking of discipline financial performance against plan, prepare financial reports with operational commentary and variance commentary
- Facilitate in-depth discussion of deviations from financial forecasts, identifying and communicating operational root causes to financial performance
- Identify Commercial Improvement opportunities, enabling effective business partnering
- Support implementation of Commercial improvement initiatives (e.g., BI dashboard roll-out)
- Site Performance Improvement
- Collaborate with discipline management to identify cost improvement opportunities
- Understanding of underlying operation processes and value drivers of respective operational disciplines
- Collaborate financial information with on-site Contracts Team supporting expenditure board, contract execution
- Prepare month end journals in alignment with cost reviews ensuring accurate capturing of monthly costs
- Ensure costs are correctly allocated to correct disciplines/departments by review of transactions/invoices to ensure alignment to forecast
Qualifications & Certifications
- Tertiary qualifications within a relevant field (Bachelor of Commerce, Business – Accounting or Finance)
- Knowledge of the QLD Coal Mining Legislation is desirable
- Integrated ERP system experience (SAP) is preferred
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, able to work collaboratively with senior stakeholders, and be proactive in a complex environment with strict timelines
- Experience dealing with complex commercial finance projects within a large organization

- 12-month fixed term position based at Aquila Mine, Middlemount, QLD
- Monday to Friday staff roster (9-day fortnight available)
