ABOUT GEMCO

Located on the tropical Groote Eylandt in the Northern Territory, GEMCO is an open-cut mine that is accountable for over 15% of the world’s manganese ore production. Groote Eylandt is home to the Anindilyakwa people, who are the traditional owners of the land and have been working alongside GEMCO since 1963.

The onsite accommodation includes meal services and access to excellent facilities, including a gym, beachside workout area, swimming pool, golf course, tennis and squash courts, a sports oval and a range of scenic walking tracks.

ABOUT THE ROLE

This role is a Permanent full-time position on a 4:3 roster, FIFO from Darwin or Cairns to Groote Eylandt.

As the Category Specialist, you will be responsible for developing and executing category, sourcing and contract strategies that optimise value, reduce supply risk and support operational and business objectives.

Other key responsibilities include, but aren’t limited to: 

• Lead tender processes from market engagement through to recommendation
• Negotiate commercial agreements and contract variations with suppliers
• Review and manage supplier performance against KPIs and business expectations
• Partner with contract owners and suppliers to strengthen contracting outcomes

ABOUT YOU

You will have experience and demonstrate capability in the following: 

• Procurement, commercial or supply chain experience within mining or heavy industry
• Delivering strategic sourcing and category management outcomes
• Leading tenders, evaluations, negotiations and recommendations
• Building trusted relationships with stakeholders and suppliers
• Experience with SAP and/or Ariba (desirable)

Qualifications for this position are: 

• Current C Class Drivers Licence
• Relevant qualification aligned to procurement, supply chain or commercial management (advantageous)
