Job Description

Newmont Tanami is on Aboriginal freehold land 540km northwest of Alice Springs. It is a long-life, low-cost, world-class asset in a core Newmont region. The Tanami Expansion 2 project, aims to extend the mine life beyond 2040, investing in a hoisting shaft which will increase the production of the underground mine from 2.6 Mtpa to 3.2 Mtpa. Both the successful exploration within the underground operation and implementation of the first Tanami Expansion has laid the foundation to further develop the operation to remain a major contributor to the Newmont portfolio. A fully equipped camp is located onsite offering leisure facilities for those flying in from Perth, Brisbane, Alice Springs or Darwin.

This is a site-based role at Tanami Operations in the Northern Territory, working in a challenging remote environment. You will interface daily with Operations, Maintenance, Engineering, HSE, and project stakeholders.

The role involves a FIFO schedule with 14/14 or 8/6 opportunities available.  Approved departure locations for the point of hire are Darwin, Alice Springs, Perth, and Brisbane.

Who we’re looking for!

As a Boilermaker, you will play a hands-on role delivering safe and efficient fabrication, repairs and maintenance of fixed plant equipment across the Tanami site. Working on assets such as crushers, conveyors, chutes, shafts and associated infrastructure, you will support plant reliability and operational performance. This is a role for someone who takes pride in high-quality workmanship, works proactively to eliminate risk, and thrives in a safety-focused, team-driven environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Completing fabrication, welding, and repair work on fixed plant equipment to a high standard, supporting both routine maintenance and shutdown activities.
  • Inspecting equipment for wear, damage, and defects, identifying issues early and taking corrective action to maintain safe and reliable operations.
  • Following work management processes, including job tracking, time confirmation, and accurate documentation of work history.
  • Conducting risk assessments prior to task commencement (e.g. JHA, Safe Checks) and applying appropriate controls to ensure safe execution of work.
  • Supporting team capability by mentoring apprentices, maintaining clean and organised work areas, and contributing to continuous improvement initiatives.

Capabilities Required

  • Trade qualified Boilermaker (Certificate III Engineering – Fabrication or equivalent).
  • Demonstrated experience in maintenance of fixed plant equipment (crushers, conveyors, pipework, shafts & winders in underground and surface environments).
  • High Risk Work Licences - Confined Space, EWP, Work at Heights, Forklift.
  • Strong problem-solving ability with the capacity to follow procedures, apply judgement, and improve work methods through experience and observation.
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to collaborate across departments, remain calm under pressure, and contribute to safe, reliable outcomes.
