Work Location: Perth – Fortescue’s Perth office is located on the traditional lands of the Whadjuk people
Roster: Monday to Friday
As Fortescue’s business wide technical subject matter expert (SME) for fixed plant Vibrating Equipment and Wet Processing equipment, you will leverage your extensive operational engineering experience with these assets to provide technical support, continuous improvement, and assurance functions to both site based and central teams. The role is primarily focused on vibrating equipment, particularly vibrating screens. The remaining scope covers selected wet processing assets and systems where specialist support is required.
You will be regarded as Fortescue's technical authority for vibrating equipment and will provide leadership in equipment reliability, maintenance strategy, failure analysis, lifecycle management and operational performance. You will utilise strong interpersonal and communication skills to build relationships with relevant teams across operations and Perth that enable you to deliver best-for-business outcomes across Fortescue’s fixed plant asset base.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide technical leadership and governance for vibrating screens, feeders and associated wet processing equipment across all operations.
- Develop and implement asset strategies that optimise reliability, maintainability and whole-of-life cost.
- Lead the investigation and resolution of complex equipment failures and chronic reliability issues.
- Apply first-principles engineering and reliability methodologies to identify root causes and implement sustainable solutions.
- Develop asset management plans, maintenance strategies and technical standards for assets within scope.
- Provide technical assurance for asset replacement programs, equipment modifications and capital projects.
- Review and optimise critical spares strategies and high-value inventory decisions.
- Partner with OEMs, suppliers and internal stakeholders to evaluate equipment improvements and emerging technologies.
- Facilitate cross-site knowledge sharing and drive standardisation of best practices across Fortescue operations.
- Build strong relationships across Operations, Maintenance, Projects, Procurement and Engineering teams to influence outcomes without direct authority.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering.
- Minimum 8-10 years' experience supporting fixed plant assets within minerals processing or heavy industry.
- Extensive hands-on experience with vibrating screens and vibrating equipment from a reliability, maintenance or asset management perspective.
- Demonstrated expertise in diagnosing and resolving complex equipment performance and reliability issues.
- Strong understanding of equipment failure mechanisms including structural fatigue, bearings, exciters, drive systems and vibration-related failures.
- Proven experience applying engineering fundamentals and structured problem-solving techniques to deliver practical operational outcomes.
- Strong stakeholder engagement, communication and influencing skills, with the ability to build credibility across all organisational levels.
- Experience with wet processing equipment including cyclones, scrubbers, slurry pumps, thickeners and classification systems.
