About the Role
The Analyst Rail Control Data supports safe, efficient, and reliable rail operations by delivering trusted data, analytics, and insights. The role works as a support function to Rail Control Production and Operations, translating complex needs into actionable insights for both real‑time and analytical decision‑making.
Key Responsibilities
The Analyst Rail Control Data will:
- Partner with Rail Control, Rail Production, Operations, and Planning stakeholders to understand and prioritise data and analytics needs.
- Translate Rail Control concepts (train movements, delays, incidents, plans vs actuals, network performance) into clear analytical requirements and solutions.
- Develop concise report specifications and documentation, including metric definitions, assumptions, and usage context.
- Design and deliver clear, fit‑for‑purpose dashboards and reports (e.g. shift, daily, and trend views) that support operational and leadership decision‑making.
- Integrate multiple data sources to generate insights across rail performance, reliability, and production delivery.
- Maintain and improve existing analytics by monitoring data quality, accuracy, and relevance as systems and operations evolve.
- Conduct targeted analysis to support Rail Control performance, including delay drivers, variability, recovery performance, and constraints analysis.
- Support adoption of analytics through training, workshops, and ad‑hoc presentations for operational users.
- Contribute to building a data‑driven culture across Rail Control by improving data literacy and promoting consistent, trusted reporting.
About You
- Experience in a Business Intelligence, Data Analyst, or similar role, ideally within rail or supply chain environments.
- Masters degree in Commerce or equivalent
- Strong experience across the full analytics lifecycle, from requirements gathering through to delivery and ongoing improvement.
- Proven experience with Power BI for developing operational dashboards and visualisation, as well as maintaining workspaces and access
- Proven experience utilising CI/CD withing Power BI, including git integration.
- Strong technical capability in:
- SQL for data querying and transformation
- Snowflake or similar cloud data platforms, including Cortex AI
- Python for data analysis, profiling and automation/script creation
- Experience integrating and analysing operational and event-based data from OSI PI
- Experience developing solutions utilising the Office 365 suite (Power Automate, Power Apps)
- Strong data profiling and data quality management skills.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with frontline operators and leaders.
- Demonstrated ability to coach or guide others and work independently in a fast‑paced operational environment.
- Strong problem‑solving skills and ability to extract insights from complex datasets.
