Lead, Influence & Shape the Future of Our Underground Operations

Westgold Resources is seeking an experienced Alternate Underground Manager to join our team at Beta Hunt Operations. This is a pivotal leadership opportunity for a motivated professional looking to make a meaningful impact on underground safety, productivity, and culture.

Reporting to the Underground Manager and working an 8 days on / 6 days off roster, this statutory position (as required under WA Mines Regulations) places you at the centre of daily underground operations. You will provide strong leadership to operational and technical teams, influence mine planning and project execution, and mentor the next generation of underground mining professionals—while contributing directly to Westgold’s strategic objectives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead, influence, and sustain a strong underground safety culture
  • Implement and reinforce the Project Operational Safety Plan (POSP)
  • Model and uphold Westgold’s values, policies, and operational standards
  • Align 13-week plans with financial and calendar year targets
  • Review and approve underground mine planning documentation (MIs, LENs, SENs, DAFs, MDAFs)
  • Provide leadership, coaching, and professional development to underground engineers
  • Manage surface and underground projects, including contractor oversight
  • Approve end-of-month accruals and contribute to site budgeting processes
  • Act as the Registered Manager when required
  • Prepare, review, and approve Capital Expenditure Requests (CERs)
  • Review operational performance and present weekly and monthly mining reports to the General Manager

Major Responsibility Areas

  • Statutory compliance in the role of Alternate Underground Manager
  • Leadership of site health and safety initiatives
  • Oversight, review, and approval of all underground mine planning inputs
  • Driving continuous improvement and operational excellence
  • Leadership of underground project execution
  • Mentoring and development of junior mining engineers

Safety Leadership

  • Actively demonstrate and promote Westgold’s safety-first culture
  • Ensure compliance with all site safety systems and expectations
  • Champion the POSP across all operational teams
  • Advocate safe, compliant, and productive work practices

Qualifications & Experience

Essential:

  • Bachelor of Engineering (Mining)
  • WA First Class Mine Manager’s Certificate
  • Current First Aid Certificate
  • Demonstrated experience in underground mine planning and production
