About the Role

The Advisor, Tailings Studies is a role that is suited to a highly motivated professional with strong technical capability, and who is passionate about delivering high-quality solutions and contributing to the ongoing safe storage of tailings.

Key Accountabilities

  • Lead the planning, development and delivery of safe tailings storage facilities for both sustaining and growth projects, aligned with Rio Tinto Standards and GISTM requirements.
  • Develop strategic tailings capacity and closure/decommissioning plans that support mine operations and long-term business objectives.
  • Coordinate multidisciplinary teams to deliver integrated tailings solutions across Concept, Order of Magnitude and Pre-Feasibility study phases.
  • Prepare and manage study scopes, schedules, cost estimates and key project deliverables throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Engage with operational teams, Responsible Dam Engineers, regulators and external stakeholders to support design development, approvals and community engagement activities.
  • Identify, assess and manage project risks, partnering with the Engineer of Record to integrate technical risk assessments and support ALARP outcomes.
  • Support feasibility, execution and operational handover activities, ensuring design intent is maintained through to implementation and ongoing facility management.

About You / Requirements

  • Degree qualified civil engineer, geotechnical engineer, hydrogeologist, environmental engineer or metallurgist who identifies as a tailings professional.
  • Tailings Management experience gained through consulting or operations.
  • A confident communicator with proven study leadership capability and strong safety leadership.
