Job Description
About the Company
At Newmont, we’re not just a world-leading gold and metals producer – we’re a team united by our commitment to shaping a more inclusive, sustainable, and responsible mining industry. Joining us means becoming part of a global, diverse workforce where everyone is valued, empowered, and encouraged to grow. Our Cadia Valley Operation in New South Wales is situated about 25 kilometers from Orange and 250 kilometers west of Sydney. Cadia produces gold doré bars from a gravity circuit and gold-rich copper concentrates from a flotation circuit. The operation includes the Cadia East Mine which is globally renowned for its use of block caving, a large-scale underground mining method.
We acknowledge the Wiradjuri people, traditional custodians of the land surrounding Cadia, and proudly run an Indigenous Buddy Program to enrich the workplace experience our Indigenous employees. As a residential (drive-in / drive-out) mine, Cadia values community deeply, offering both financial and in-kind support to organizations across Blayney, Cabonne, and Orange townships. The Orange region is often referred to as the gateway to Country New South Wales with acclaimed wineries, fine dining, annual festivals and charming heritage villages making for an unparalleled work-life balance.
About the Role
Who we’re looking for
We are seeking an Environmental Advisor with a focus on projects & planning to support the delivery of environmental outcomes across Cadia’s operations and project portfolio. Reporting to the Team Lead – Environment Compliance, this role has a strong focus on environmental project planning, scheduling, and execution, while ensuring ongoing statutory and approval compliance.
You will work closely with project managers, planners, operational teams, and contractors to embed environmental requirements into project schedules and site delivery plans. Your success will be driven by your ability to manage environmental work programs end‑to‑end — translating approvals and compliance obligations into structured plans, coordinating activities, tracking progress, and supporting timely, high‑quality delivery of environmental projects.
Key responsibilities include:
- Plan, schedule, and coordinate environmental work programs in support of site operations and capital projects
- Integrate environmental requirements into project schedules, milestones, and delivery plans
- Maintain environmental compliance systems, including incident tracking, actions, and reporting
- Update, and implement environmental management plans, procedures, and registers aligned to project execution
- Conduct environmental monitoring activities and ensure outcomes are delivered in line with project schedules
- Participate in regular field inspections, identifying risks, constraints, and improvement opportunities
- Track actions, initiate corrective measures, and support close‑out of environmental commitments
- Liaise closely with project teams, planners, and operational stakeholders to support compliance and delivery
- Coordinate, schedule, and manage environmental contractors and consultants
- Provide timely, practical environmental advice to support decision‑making and project delivery
- Deliver a range of environmental and community projects within agreed scope, time, cost, and quality parameters
- Contribute to planning reviews, reporting cycles, and continuous improvement initiatives
You are an organised and adaptable environmental or engineering professional with a strong interest in project delivery and planning. You thrive in structured environments, enjoy coordinating multiple workstreams, and can confidently engage with a wide range of stakeholders. You bring strong written and verbal communication skills, a proactive mindset, and the ability to prioritise effectively in a dynamic site‑based environment.
Experience in mining or heavy industry is desirable, but not essential — confident communicators with strong planning capability and a willingness to learn are encouraged to apply.
You will also bring:
- A Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering or equivalent.
- Exposure to environmental project coordination, planning, or scheduling, preferably in a mining or major civil construction environment.
- Experience operating and maintaining environmental management systems, risk registers, and management plans
- A current manual driver’s licence
Please note: This is a 5/2 (9 hours per day) or 9 days per fortnight (10 hours per day) residential role in Orange, NSW and the successful applicant will have unrestricted rights to work in Australia.
At Newmont, our commitment to diversity and inclusion ensures that everyone can work to their full potential, free from discrimination, while respecting the cultures, religions, and governance of the regions in which we operate. Guided by our values of Safety, Integrity, Sustainability, Responsibility, and Inclusion, we believe in the strength of our people and the positive impact we can create together.
Newmont employees are rewarded with a competitive salary, flexible packaging options, and programs that recognize those who go above and beyond. We know no candidate meets every qualification listed, so if you share our values and feel you can make a meaningful contribution, we encourage you to apply – we’d love to hear from you!
