The Opportunity:

Reporting to the Superintendent, you will be responsible for the effective coordination of all mining-related geotechnical issues within the Gruyere Open pit to achieve budgeted production and meet all quality standards, including cost, safety, and environmental.

This role is offered on 8 days on 6 days off FIFO roster from Perth

What You’ll Do

  • Assist in leading the geotechnical team through a significant operational ramp-up;
  • Ability to cover daily geotechnical support to mining operations, including bench development and blasting plan reviews, inspections, monitoring, analysis, recommendations and QA/QC activities;
  • Contribute to the ongoing success and optimisation of existing mining operations;
  • Oversee geotechnical monitoring systems from design and implementation through to analysis and reporting;
  • Collect and analyse geotechnical data, including the identification, investigation and assessment of rockfall events and ground control issues;
  • Develop and maintain geotechnical models and operational assessments to identify, evaluate and communicate geotechnical risks and opportunities;
  • Ensure robust geotechnical data management systems and practices are maintained;
  • Drive design performance reviews and compliance reporting;
  • Undertake slope stability assessments and numerical modelling using the Rocscience suite (RS2/RS3, Slide2/Slide3, RocSlope3, RocFall2/RocFall3 and related tools);
  • Support and coordinate geotechnical drilling programs, including drillhole design and data management;
  • Conduct and contribute to medium-term geotechnical projects that support mine-wide stability and operational performance;
  • Participate in geotechnical reviews at various stages of project development, from Concept through to Feasibility;
  • Communicate geotechnical hazards, controls and ground control requirements to the workforce, technical teams and management;
  • Update and maintain Ground Control Management Plan, Geotechnical procedures and TARP’s;
  • Mentor and develop graduate and site-based geotechnical engineers.

What You’ll Bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in mining engineering, Geological Engineering, or Geology with Post Graduate qualifications in Geomechanics,
  • Extensive proven experience in open pit geotechnical engineering.
  • Demonstrated capability in geotechnical risk management, slope design, monitoring and ground-control practices.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to influence and collaborate across multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Current Driver’s license (manual)
  • A growth mindset, with strong communication, responsibility, and relationship-building skills.
